Earth Run 2009…Slippery when wet… I like!

Running in the rain… not the first but definitely a first for me on an official run event. It was just a drizzle actually. I would’ve liked it better if the rain was stronger and roads wetter though. But generally, the weather worked perfect for me.

Pace . For the most part of the run, I was trying to keep pace with the 6min pacer dude. I never let him out of my sight, lagging 20m at the most. I was pacing side by side with Erick a.k.a Shocks_5 of takbo.ph on the first few kms. However, I can’t keep up with him and this running program he’s trying out in preparation for the Milo marathon. He’s doing mile sprints and moments of jog/walk for recovery. My recovery time takes a lot longer so I decided to stick to my more consistent pace of 6min tailing this pacer dude.

Shoes. I opted to reactivate my Nike pegasus from retirement coz I figured the fit will work better when wet than my NB. That was based on my very little technical knowledge on running shoes. My basis.. it’s tighter…haha! plus it would have better traction on wet and slippery roads coz the soles are not that worn out yet.

Route. The route was my usual training route when the Army grandstand is unavailable to the public, so the inclines on McKinley hill, Gate 3 and Heritage park never bacame issues for me.

Hydration. Obviously, hydration was less of an issue. Water stations seem adequate given the wet weather. I don’t think that would have been the case on a May 10 Botak weather. I liked the earth friendly gulp size paper cups they used in the water stations.

Overall. It wasn’t a strong run.. but considering that I have not run that much for the past few weeks, I can’t ask for anything better. It still was a great run for me and more importantly, it was fun and surprisingly pain free after the run. Maybe my brief break from running paid off afterall.

Finished the run on my clock at 1hr32mins.

Had breakfast with the cool takbo.ph gang. IE8 and Earth Run runners converged at McDonalds after the runs.

Hi Ian, I agree, running in the rain is nice. Much much better than the Botak weather. Running in the rain was better than I expected. I'll grab the pix, ok?

Ian, congratulations on the race along with the post and the pics. As long as the rain doesn't blow hard into one's face straight on, I don't mind it. Definitely, a drizzle is advantageous to all the runners there.

Please take care.

Nice recap, Ian. I wish I could join the race. I enjoy so much running under the rain, especially typhoon. I did that before, the amazing thing not because of the strong wind and heavy rain but to see people with a big question in their faces why I'm running and to hear them saying stop running hahaha...

Hope to see you in MILO.

Ey Ian, nice post. We really wanted to do Earth Run but when we called the organizer after we came back from Clark last week, they said that registration is closed. 1:32 is still strong (by my standards) =)

Hey Ian,

Actually there are a few runners at the office also. I'll also introduce them to you when we get to meet.

One is Narod whos previously a UP track athlete, Virgo, and the other is Julie.

Pag umaraw, lets plan a long run one time after work. If you want to join us, me and Narod trains every monday at BHS.
